Cousin rejects settlement in wounding case

DONALD Samaroo, of Lot 76 Sheriff Street, Georgetown, appeared before Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry, yesterday, charged with unlawfully wounding his cousin, Paul Sanchara.

He pleaded not guilty to the October 24 offence and his lawyer, Mr. Paul Fung-a-Fat, told the Court that the virtual complainant is willing to accept $10,000 as a settlement.
However, Sanchara said he does not wish to settle the matter and wants the case to proceed with the trial.
Police Corporal Kerry Bostwick, prosecuting, said the two cousins were drinking beers and they had a misunderstanding over money when the defendant cuffed the virtual complainant in his abdomen and lashed him with a bottle on his head.
Samaroo was put on $25,000 bail until November 7.
