XM 2012 Guyana Open Golf Championship launched … tees off Saturday

THE Banks DIH XM 2012 Guyana Open Golf Championship was launched yesterday and is scheduled to tee off on Saturday and run until the following day at the Lusignan Golf Course.
So far, over 80 golfers including the

locals, altUSA- and Canada-based, Suriname and Trinidad and Tobago players have registered to battle over 18 holes.
The tournament is expected to be quite competitive since most of the golfers are fresh off the Digicel Open Championships which took place over the past weekend.
Lusignan Golf Club’s Dave Mohammed stated that the course is in immaculate condition and is expected to get better with the recent dry season. He also disclosed that there will be a total of nine ladies competing. However, ‘Gross’ tournament will be run on a Handicap system.
Marketing and Sales Manager of Banks DIH Carlton Joao said “the tournament has grown and this is because of two primary reasons. Firstly it’s the dedication of the executives of the Lusignan Golf Club who drive for success.”
He continued, “The other reason is the high standard of players who have been participating who give the Guyanese players a run for their money. I also saw the effort put in to maintain the course and this is also testimony to the good works put forth.”
There are a number of contenders in the tournament including three-time champion Avenash Persaud and Mohanlall Deodat.
The 18-year-old Avinda Kishore is also one to keep under the radar along with Fazil Haniff and Alfred Mentore.
