Canadian shot in Rodrigues killing succumbs

CANADIAN Jean Pierre Le Blanc, one of the men wounded at the scene of the Ricardo Rodrigues’ fatal shooting at the Guyana Motor Racing and Sports Club (GMRSC) on October 15, succumbed Friday at the High Dependency Unit of  the Georgetown Public Hospital. Le Blanc, who spent just under two weeks in hospital, was being treated for a gunshot wound to his left buttocks and right arm.   Hours following his admission to hospital, his condition was said to have stabilized, but over time, it might have deteriorated, since he was subsequently placed on a respirator and hooked up to a monitoring device.
This newspaper has learnt that, hours before he succumbed, Le Blanc made a statement to the police, in relation to the shooting incident.
The burly Le Blanc and two other men were injured when gunmen opened gunfire, targeting  Ricardo Rodrigues who was killed on the spot.  The men were, at the time patrons at the GMR&SC’s restaurant and bar.  The injured men were rushed to the Georgetown Hospital by police and were treated and kept for observation.
The other men wounded  at the crime scene were:  Aubrey Henry 35, of Alberttown, shot in both thighs and Michael Hutchinson 42, shot in the arm and foot.    Hutchinson was said to be a trainer working at the gym on the GMR&SC’s premises.   The two have since been discharged.
It is not clear whether any contact was made with Le Blanc’s relatives in Canada, and what arrangements would be put in place for the disposal of his body.
A post mortem is to be performed soonest.
