Banks Beer KO Tourney launched kicks off December 16

YESTERDAY, the highly anticipated Banks Beer knockout football tournament which is in its second year was officially launched in the conference room of Banks DIH and kicks off on December 16 at the Georgetown Cricket Club (GCC) ground, Bourda. Sixteen teams are confirmed to battle for a top prize of $4M while the runners-up will pocket $2.5M; third-placers $1.5M and fourth-placers $1M.
This tournament was overwhelmingly successful in its inaugural year and won capacity crowds over the prestigious Kashif and Shanghai tournament which was run simultaneously. Banks DIH’s Sales and Marketing Manager, Carlton Joao, boasted that the company has been a consistent supporter of football in Guyana at all levels.
The company has thrown its weight behind football from the youngest level of football right up to the senior level, and would continue to do so, since it is keen on having competitive football being played on a regular basis.
President of the Georgetown Football Association, Vernon Burnett, stated that football fans can look forward to another exciting competition, with matches at the Georgetown Football Club (GFC) and GCC grounds.
He lauded the company’s support for once again helping to bring off the tournament, noting that the GFA has always received solid support from the company ever since he assumed office.
Also present at the launch was Secretary of the GFA, Christopher Matthias. He disclosed that 16 teams have confirmed their participation, while another eight from Linden, East Coast and West Coast of Demerara have expressed interest in coming on board.
The 16 teams set to vie for supremacy are Houston Stars, GFC, Riddim Squad, Guyana Defence Force, Police, Fruta Conquerors, Sunburst Camptown, Banks DIH, Georgetown Masters, Northern Rangers, Black Pearl, Flamingo, Beacon, Santos, University of Guyana and Charlestown.
