ACTING Tourism Minister, Irfaan Ali, on Monday, defended government’s involvement in the upcoming ‘Chris Brown’ concert scheduled for Boxing Day. The minister said the People’s Progressive Party/Civic (PPP/C) Administration stands ready to support such an initiative which seeks to boost the local tourist industry.
Mr. Ali was responding to a question by A Partnership for National Unity (APNU) Member of Parliament (MP), Mr. Carl Greenidge during the sitting of the National Assembly.
The Opposition Parliamentarian had quoted an unsubstantiated newspaper report, which suggested that the government was financially involved in the show.
Minister Ali, speaking on the government’s position, noted that, as Acting Tourism Minister, he is tasked with ensuring that there is excessive traffic flowing in and out of this country, so that the hotels and tourist attractions can be expanded.

Chris Brown’s reputation was brought into question and Speaker of the House, Mr. Raphael Trotman intervened in the exchange, pointing out that Brown is not under investigation.
He suggested that Greenidge take his concerns over Brown outside the House.
Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Hits and Jams Entertainment, Mr. Rawle Ferguson announced, on Monday, that the international artiste Brown will be performing at the ‘Unforgettable 2’ mega concert at the Guyana National Stadium, Providence, East Bank Demerara, on December 26 (Boxing Day).
