A MOTHER who is said to be suffering from a nervous problem on Monday night allegedly beat  her 12-year-old son to death in Onderneeming Red Village on the Essequibo Coast. Reports said the woman started to beat her son, Trevis Benjamin, who is unable to talk, from around 21:00hrs Monday. This continued for hours, until around 6:00hrs next morning.
Several neighbours said they heard the woman lashing the child and knocking him down on the floor of her house. They said the child was crying and groaning with pain all night.
Reports said no one from the Red Village tried to stop the beating, as they are afraid of the woman.
Neighbours said the child was sick and suffering from diarroeha.
Reports said the police visited the village early in the morning and took the mother into custody, but released her after a few hours.
Neighbours are calling for justice for the dead child and on the police to pursue the matter.
