ROBIN Persaud dominated once again in the feature event of the inaugural Payless Variety Store 11-race cycle meet, held at the National Park Circuit. The event brought the curtain down on the 2012 cycle season at the circuit. Persaud pedalled away with the trophy for the 35-lap event convincingly, in a time of one hour 18 minutes 42 seconds (01h:18m:42s). He was trailed by Junior Niles, Raul Leal, Marlon Williams and Paul De Nobrega.
Persaud was quite strategic in the races while the field had a laid-back approach which gave the eventual victor an opportunity to get some distance between the pack and himself with just over five laps to go.
In other results, Niles rode off with the Veterans’ Under-50 (five laps) first place trophy, beating Shameer Baksh and Kennard Lovell, who were second and third respectively.
The five-lap Veterans’ Over-50 race was won by Wilfred Thom, followed by Courtney Hackett. Thom and Hackett were the only two starters. Harry Lall won the Veterans’ Over-60 race ahead of Maurice Fagundes; they were also the only two starters.
In the 12-14 (three-lap) event, Alfie Sonaram took home the winner’s trophy, while Jason Jordan copped second and Adrian Sharma third.
Leal took the Juveniles’ 10-lap race with De Nobrega and Mario King settling for the other two top spots.
The two-lap BMX Boys 6 – 9 years race was won by Isaiah Sahadeo, while Scion Nunes copped second and Jeremiah Harrison third. Keon Harris took top honours in the BMX Boys 9 – 12 years race ahead of Briton John and Rashedi Ceres.
In the 12-14 Boys and Girls three-lap race, Adrian Sharma took home the top prize, while Jamal John copped second and Deeraj Ghabarran third and in the 12-14 Open (three-lap), Cleveland King took pole position ahead of Adrian Sharma and Christopher Griffith.
