RAWLE Blackman (no address given) was remanded to prison, on Thursday, after he pleaded not guilty, before Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry, to a charge of trafficking in narcotics. He is charged with having on October 17, at Ogle Airport, East Coast Demerara, trafficked in 102 grammes of cannabis sativa (marijuana).
Customs Anti-Narcotics Unit (CANU) Special Prosecutor, Oswald Massiah told the court that the defendant went to Ogle Airport and attempted to send a box to the interior.
The prosecutor said the box, when searched, contained food items, including a bottle marked nut butter, which, when opened had the illegal substance.
When arrested, the defendant told CANU officers that someone gave him the box to post but he did not provide the name and address of the person.
Blackman will make his next court appearance on October 23.
