National Communications Network (NCN) wishes to refute claims made by the Alliance For Change in its press release dated October 18, 2012.
While NCN is appreciative of the AFC’s participation in the recent seven-part ‘Debate Series on Corruption’, the institution has always acknowledged correspondence by the AFC and is working to facilitate the request of the AFC.
However, with regard to the request pertaining to the use of ‘live’ audience for the debate, that concept was tested during the first session of the seven-part series but was discontinued due to
technical difficulties which the institution is working ardently to rectify. Also, provision was made to facilitate a representative of the AFC to witness the ‘Feedback’ process since it provides the wider audience with the opportunity to contribute to the programme. This information was communicated via letter dated October 8, 2012 to the AFC.
In keeping with our commitment to provide the public with information pertinent to nation-building, NCN has acceded to produce debate on the issues of: Alleged Opposition Corruption and Conflict of Interest, and Discrimination. This decision was taken as a result of overwhelming public response to the initial seven-part ‘Debate Series on Corruption’.
The issue of Discrimination would be produced live and aired via NCN media (Voice of Guyana, NCN chn. 11 and web streaming) on Sunday, October 21 and Wednesday, October 24 at 19:00 hrs.
The members of both opposition parties were invited to participate.
