Cyclist suffers broken hip, motorcyclist arrested

AN UNLICENSED rider, on a 125 horse power (hp) motorcycle, hit a cyclist and two pedestrians on Andrews Public Road, Essequibo Coast, last Tuesday evening.

The cyclist known as ‘Gavin’ was hurled several feet away on impact and suffered a broken hip and other injuries while the two pedestrians (no names given) escaped with minor injuries.
It is reported that the motorcyclist known only as ‘Black Boy’, of Bounty Hall, was on his way home around 19:30 hrs at the time of the accident.
He was rushed to Charity Hospital while the unconscious cyclist was taken to Suddie Public Hospital and admitted.
However, while at Charity Hospital, the motorcyclist was arrested by police after receiving medical attention.
The motorcycle was purchased three months ago and it is alleged that it was being ridden without lights on the dark Andrews Public Road where there is no street lighting.
Police investigations are ongoing.
