Young lawyer warned to walk the straight and narrow path -on being admitted to bar

JUSTICE William Ramlall yesterday admitted Ms Coleen Kimberley Andrea Sparman to the Guyana Bar to practise as an Attorney-at-Law in and before the courts of Guyana.

altIn his exhortations to the 25-year-old newly graduated lawyer, Justice Ramlall admonished: “Walk the straight and narrow path. Don’t take your clients’ instructions as the Gospel of Matthew, Mark, Luke and John. Always check and verify your clients’ stories. Your conduct at all times must always be professional. Hand in hand professionalism must be of the utmost consideration.”
The young advent was awarded the Legal Education Certificate on September 7, 2012 at the Hugh Wooding Law School.tition for Miss Sparman to be admitted to practise as an Attorney-at-Law was presented by Miss Emily Dodson, in association with Mr. Shaun Allicock of the law firm of Allicock and Allicock and Dodson, Attorneys-at-law.

According to Miss Dodson, “Your petitioner, the fifth child of Colin Sparman and Marilyn Sparman, was born on the 2nd day of June, 1987 at Linden. Your petitioner’s father is a mining engineer and is employed as the Adminisrative Coordinator of the Guyana Gold and Diamond Mining Association, while her mother is a housewife.
“Your Honour, your petitioner attended the Watooka Day Primary School then the Mackenzie High School and Queen’s College.

At high school, Ms. Sparman became a very rounded student. She participated in several extra and co-curricular activities, including Bible Club. She graduated from Q.C. in 2005, and proceeded to the University of Guyana, where, in the year 2007, your petitioner obtained a Diploma in Social Work with distinction.
“Your Honour, Ms. Sparman commenced her legal studies in 2007 at the University of Guyana, and graduated in 2010 with the Bachelor of Laws degree with credit. She entered the HWLS (Hugh Wooding Law School) in 2010, did her service training at the Law Firm of Allicock, Allicock and Dodson, Attorneys-at-Law in 2011, and graduated from the HWLS in 2012.
“While at the HWLS, your petitioner was active in the Child Advocacy Specialist Clinic.”
Ms Sparman thanked Justice Ramlall for his kind advice, her parents for their guidance and attention, and her colleagues for their cooperation, even as she promised to live up to expectations.
