Thousands of Guyanese affected, stranded last week in… : AFC-inspired terror in Agricola

THOUSANDS of Guyanese were adversely affected last week by the AFC-inspired terror in Agricola. altAttorney-General and Minister of Legal Affairs, Anil Nandlall, and Presidential Advisor Gail Teixeira laid the blame for the eruption of terror at Agricola squarely at the feet of the AFC in general, and that party’s chairman and vice-chairman, Nigel Hughes and Moses Nagamootoo in particular.
According to both Teixeira and Nandlall, the events that unfolded, from the fiery protest action outside the Magistrate’s Court last Thursday  morning, to the mayhem on the East Bank four-lane highway later that afternoon and into the night, was a carefully orchestrated agenda that synchronizes with the convening of Parliament on Friday; and the ultimatum to the President to relieve Minister Rohee of his post within 48 hrs, was merely a facilitator to precipitate the series of events that they hope would force the Ramotar administration to demit office.

As we stated in our Editorial today, it was a dangerous mix of callous, opportunistic opposition politicking and sheer criminality that resulted in a sad demonstration of hooliganism, with physical assaults and robberies, as well as the blockading of main transportation routes last Thursday at Agricola village. Disciplined and courageous intervention by ranks of the Guyana Police Force managed to avert  threatened human tragedies.
altPresident Donald Ramotar and the Federation of Independent Trade Unions of Guyana (FITUG), representing the largest group of trade unions, were firm in their respective condemnatory statements.
The mayhem and terror resulted in the lives and limbs of thousands of people including children, the elderly and workers being compromised as they were left stranded for hours, hungry, tired and fatigued and not knowing when they would reach home. How could such actions be deemed a protest for justice, because in this so-called protest, grave injustice was done to thousands of innocent people.
The Chronicle has decided to reprint some photos of the mayhem that unfolded last Thursday for the benefit of our Sunday readers who might have missed our earlier publications on Friday and yesterday.
