Vessel arrested after collision with barge released after guarantee letter lodged R. & R. International claiming $28M damages

INTERNATIONAL cargo vessel the MV SELEINA, which was arrested by a court order following involvement in a collision with a barge, has been released yesterday on another order issued by Acting Chief Justice Mr. Ian Chang, S.C. While the owners of the vessel have been able to secure its release after lodging a Letter of Guarantee from Aspen Insurance UK Ltd., an affiliate of Lloyds    Syndicate, an interested party in Guyana — R & R International — is claiming $28M in damages from the owners of the ship.

R & R wharf was said to have been damaged when the vessel collided with a barge owned by Willems Timber Company on 2nd October last.    

Following the collision, the matter was taken to court, and the vessel was arrested on an order directed by the Chief Justice on October 4.

The owners of the vessel are represented by Mr. Jainarayan Singh, a former judge of the High Court, and Attorney-at-Law Miss Jaya Singh.
