CHIEF Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry, who informed the Guyana Chronicle of her recent confirmation in the post, yesterday remanded Paul Persaud, 20, of Lot 27 Hill Street, Albouystown, Georgetown, to prison on a drug trafficking charge. The defendant pleaded not guilty to the offence, particulars of which said, on October 10, he had 32 grammes of cannabis (marijuana) in his possession for the purpose.
Police Corporal Kerry Bostwick, prosecuting, said ranks on mobile patrol observed Persaud acting in a suspicious manner and a search of him yielded a quantity of leaves, seeds and stems in his hands.
The prosecutor said the substance was tested and weighed in Persaud’s presence at the station.
The defendant, however, claimed that the narcotic was found in the possession of a woman but police did not charge her.
Persaud has to be back in court on October 19.
