West Indies Fullbore Shooting C/ships fire off today at Timehri ranges : … six regional teams to do battle with hosts

PATRON of the Guyana National Rifle Association (GNRA) and President of the Republic of Guyana, President Donald Ramotar, has been invited to fire the first shot as Guyana host the West Indies Fullbore Shooting Championships from today to Sunday at the Timehri Rifle Ranges. President of the GNRA, Commodore Gary Best, Chief of Staff of the Guyana Defence Force is expected to accompany the President for the symbolic opening ceremony at 09:00hrs as six regional teams, namely Antigua/Barbuda, Barbados, Bermuda, Jamaica, Trinidad and Tobago and hosts Guyana compete for regional supremacy in short range and long range shooting competitions.
Jamaica are the reigning short range champions that will be over 300, 500 and 600 yards ranges while Guyana hold the long range title over 900 and 1 000 yards.
National Fullbore captain Mahendra Persaud will lead the Guyana team which includes three overseas-based shooters – Sigmund Douglas and John Fraser of the United States and former national captain Paul Archer who is based in Canada.
The other members of the squad are Dylan Fields (vice-captain), Ransford Goodluck, Lennox Braithwaite, Richard Fields, Claude Duguid, Assistant Commissioner of Police (retired) Paul Slowe, Ryan Sampson, Lt Col. Terrence Stuart, Peter Persaud and Charles Deane.
The Jamaicans, who will be looking to take the title back to the Reggae Island, have in their lineup Jose Nunez, David Rickman, Denis Lee, Wayne McNair, Aubrey Yee Sang and John Nelson, with Trinidad and Tobago being led by their veteran shooter Norris Gomez who will receive support from Carl Awong, David Rajnauth, Justin Lall, Mark Ackrill, Steven Chung, John Fong Yew, Oscar Waldron and John Soanes.
The Barbados squad will include Marlon King, Louis King, Richard Arthur, Ryan Williams, Captain Willoughby King, Inspector Ashford Jones and Donavan Baker, while Bermuda will look to Sinclair Rayner, Carl Reid, Roderick Butterfield, Wilbur Lightbourne, Norman Pogson and David Dumont to give them superiority.
Antigua/Barbuda’s squad will feature Ivor Gomes, Christopher Joseph, Thomas Greenaway, Anderson Perry, Oslon Daniel and Rohit Dukhiram.
The individual competition fires off today and runs until Thursday and following Friday’s Rest Day, the team action will fire off on Saturday and Sunday, with the Milex Cup, which is the symbol of short range supremacy, being contested on Saturday and the long range action the following day, with the presentation of prizes being done at GDF Officers Mess on Sunday evening.
