FIZAL Alli, 26, of 14, Providence on Friday appeared before Magistrate Ann Mc Clennon at the Wales Magistrate Court charged with two counts of break and enter and larceny from Patricia Seenarine and Premini Thakur of two separate addresses in Belle West.
Alli told the court he works as a mini bus
conductor on a route 42 bus which plies the Georgetown to Timehri route.
The magistrate read the charges to the man which stated that on September 28 he broke and entered the home of Patricia Seenarine and stole one digital camera valued $150,000, cosmetics valued at $15,000, clothing valued $40,000, gold jewellery worth $500,000, $58,000 in cash and one Samsung mobile phone valued at $10,000 amounting to a total value of $800,000 all being the property of Patricia Seenarine.
Alli was not required to plea to the charge which is indictable. Charges were also read for the man on another count of break and enter and larceny in which the missing items were similar to those in the first case.
He was charged on his second count for break and enter and larceny of Premini Thakur. The court heard that the defendant carted off $200,000 worth of gold, $80,000 worth of sliver, $50,000 worth of clothing, $20,000 worth of food items and $190,000 in local currency all to a total value of $540,000 and being the property of Premini Thakur.
After being told of his next court date, the defendant asked the magistrate if can be afforded a few words which were granted to him.
The accused told the court that he does not live in the area (Belle West) where the break and enter and larcenies occurred. He explained to the court that there is another young man from the village who is friendly with his girlfriend and who lives in Belle West and visits his home that he shares with the young lady.
The man told the court that of late he noticed that the guy had been bringing all sorts of items and presenting his girlfriend with them. He explained to the magistrate that he has no reason to steal and that he was being accused wrongfully. The accused identified the man who brings the things to his home as “Goatee.”
Asked by the magistrate if he explained all of that to the police, the man said that he was not given a chance to say anything since the police refused to listen to him and took no statement from him in that regard. Magistrate Mc. Clennon immediately ordered the police to take the information from the man and have it investigated.
The court also heard from the defendant that another young man who was in the police custody was released on Thursday evening after his family came and paid huge sums to the police. That claim was however not substantiated.
The prosecutor objected to bail upon the grounds that should the defendant be granted bail he will not show up for his next court appearance. Alli will return to court on the 29 of October.
Alli along with his girlfriend while being investigated for break and enter and larceny in Belle West was fingered as the same two persons who attempted to murder a 57- year old Guyanese woman in her home in neighbouring Suriname in February last. Alli’s girlfriend is still in police custody awaiting her court date where she will have to answer charges similar to that of her partner.
The police are said to be investigating that report for which wanted bulletins were issued for the duo in that country.
