GOPAUL Seecharran also known as Dave Seecharran 43 of 1708 Nine Field block Y Cummings lodge lost his ride side eye while attempting to rescue his 17-year old son, Karin Seecharran from an older boy who lives in the same village and whose name was given as Arvin.
Speaking from his hospital bed yesterday afternoon, the injured man told this publication that for months now his 17-year old son has been a target of Arvin and his friends. The older Seecharran explained that Arvin and his friends would usually pick on his son.
The man said that in August of this year his son and two of Arvin’s friends ended up in a story and were placed before the courts where they were placed on a bond to keep the peace. He said that Arvin never appeared before the courts because he was sent into hiding by his mother but would usually revisit at village at intervals.
He said that every time Arvin is spotted in the area the police will be called in but every time they arrive at the location he is nowhere in sight. However on Saturday night he was unable to evade the police and is presently in custody and is expected to be charged and place before the courts sometime this week.
Gopaul said that he was attacked by Arvin, his father, mother and someone else who robbed and beat him and his son. The man told the Guyana Chronicle that the incident occurred at approximately 20:30 hrs. According to him, he works as a carpenter and contractor and is now seeking justice for what was done to him and added that what is ironic about the situation is that it occurred while he was attempting to keep the peace and opted to report the abuse of his son to the police.
The man’s wife Janet Rajnarine said that on Saturday evening her son was walking when he was spotted by Arvin who walked up to him and began assaulting him.
Yesterday Rajnarine said that after the beating she and her husband attempted to take their son to the station and it was while heading there that they were approached by the abusive couple. According to her, on their way there they were approached by the other family who prevented her son and husband from making their way to the station and within seconds her husband and son became the subject of a beating.
The woman explained that she took off her slippers and ran to the police station at Turkeyen. She said that the officer asked her why she was running and why she had her slippers in her ands to which she explained that her son and husband were being beaten by some people in the community. The police immediately accompanied her back to scene she added.
Rajnarine said that on her way back to the scene, her son passed her in a car and related that they had dug out his father’s eye and he was taking him to the hospital. The woman said that when she reached the hospital the doctors were already operating on her husband.
Speaking with the Chronicle at the hospital yesterday 17-year old Karin, said that he was on his way from work on Saturday night when the suspect approached him and began beating him and he fought back. He said that in the process his gold chain which is worth thousands of dollars went missing from around his neck.
He said that his father ran to his rescue and lashed his assailant who ran into the yard of the other boys who he usually hangs out with. Karin explained that he could hear the boy summoning his parents who live close by and they came out with other family members and prevented him and his father from making their way to the police station.
He said that when his mother went ahead to get the police after Arvin and his family attacked him and his father, Arvin’s father took a wood and lashed his father to the back of his head causing him to loose consciousness.
The 17 year old said that upon seeing that he dashed for safety running several metres from the area and when he returned he saw his father’s eye hanging down his face. The young man said that upon looking closer he realised that his father was bleeding.
The boy said that he immediately rushed him to the hospital. He could not say which of the persons who banked his father was responsible for digging out of his eye.
Up to press time last evening the police had in custody four persons from the one household who were fingered in the assault against Seecharran and his wife.
In custody are Jonny Narine, 45 of 509 South Section E Cummings Lodge, Arvin Bharat, 17 years, Parmanand Bharat, 16 and Bissiondia Nauth, 44. The police are continuing their investigation into the matter and charges are likely to be instituted soon.
