Advocates Guyana urges opposition to decriminalisation of buggery

– decriminalisation of buggery an assault on our beliefs and values
– Christian and other religious groups to make representation to Select Committee of National Assembly
ADVOCATSE of Guyana has called on the Christian community and all faith based groups in Guyana to be prepared to make presentations and present arguments to the Select Committee of the National Assembly considering amendments to the Criminal Law Offences Act.

The National Assembly reconvenes on October 10th and it is expected that the proposed amendment will be sent to a Select Committee before being debated by the House.
Advocates of Guyana see the proposed amendment to the Criminal Law Offences Act, to decriminalize the crime of buggery, as a response to initiatives being undertaken by Gay Rights Activists to encourage the voluntary practice of homosexuality,” a statement from Advocates Guyana said yesterday.
The statement continues:
While these efforts have been linked to Guyana’s continued receipt of bilateral and multilateral aid, Advocates Guyana see these moves as an assault on our Guyanese beliefs and value system and as an assault on the family.
Homosexuality is offensive to Christians and to persons of other religions all over Guyana. The practice of homosexuality is immoral, according to our long-held beliefs and traditions of morality, and it is immoral because it stands in contradiction to the obvious natural law, natural order and functions of men and women. While we defend the human rights of every individual, including homosexuals, we condemn the practice of homosexuality and its promotion through legislative amendments.

Many countries in the community of nations have made changes to their laws similar to those now being proposed in Guyana. And while these countries are cited as examples, they also serve as examples of what is the long term agenda of the Gay and Lesbian activists, an agenda that is contradictory to our beliefs and values. The agenda includes, but is not limited to:

(1)   the legalization of gay marriages;
(2)    the obligation of ministers of religion to perform marriage ceremonies between gay couples;
(3)    The adoption of children by gay couples;
(4)    The inclusion of a new gender in our laws apart from male and female;
(5) The denial of the rights of parents or school districts to control the moral calibre of the persons who teach their children;
(6)    The denial of the right of an employer to determine whether an applicant’s moral character will affect his job performance;
(7)    The denial of the right of churches and other religious entities to exclude, or refuse to hire, someone whose lifestyle is contrary to their religious convictions; and
(8)    The denial of the right of churches and other religious entities to speak out against these issues.

We call upon all right-thinking Guyanese who are not blinded by the deception that is being peddled by those who claim to be protecting the rights of homosexuals.  Advocates Guyana urges all Guyanese to stand up against this most unwholesome and unhealthy initiative to destroy family values. We join with the Christian community and other faith based groups in raising our voices against any initiative to ruin the very fabric of our society.

Be vigilant and ready to speak out against this initiative. The future of family values depends on you.
