Four arrested after prompt Police response to robberies

POLICE have two men in custody following a robbery committed in Sophia, on Leon Clarke, 18, of West La Penitence, also in Georgetown.

The victim was relieved of his motorcycle and a gold chain about 23:05 hrs on Tuesday night.
Police reported that Clarke was confronted on a bridge in the vicinity of Eastern Highway, Sophia, by six men armed with cutlasses.
Subsequently, after a report was made, Police on mobile patrol responded and saw two men with the motorcycle in the Sophia area.
They were arrested and are to be charged shortly, Police said.
Meanwhile, in another incident, two men were nabbed with an unlicensed firearm after an armed robbery at Eccles, East Coast Demerara, also on Tuesday.
Police said, about 09:50 hrs, two men, one of whom was armed with the gun, held up businessman Ravi Singh, 33, as he entered his yard at Eccles.
However, public-spirited persons, who saw the incident, informed the Police and a mobile patrol that was in the area responded promptly and held the perpetrators who had posed as Guyana Power & Light (GPL) meter readers.
A .32 snub nose revolver with three rounds was taken from the duo who are to face charges, as well.
