GCA/CARIB BEER/FRIENDS OF CRICKET/HEROES CUP – Barrington hits ton in rain-ruined game

GUYANA Defence Force (GDF) opener Shemroy Barrington fashioned a fine century against Gandhi Youth Organisation (GYO) when the two met in the Georgetown Cricket Association (GCA)-organised Carib Beer/Friends of Cricket/Heroes Cup two-day first division competition at the Malteenoes Sports Club ground last weekend.

Winning the toss and opting to bat first, GDF reached 285 before being bowled out from 57.2 overs, with Barrington stroking 14 fours and one six in his 101, while Jerry Fraser contributed 63 that was laced with three fours and a similar number of sixes.
Randy Lindore 32 and Dillon Heyliger 22 offered support to Barrington and Fraser with the bat, against the bowling of Kamesh Yadram who led a weakened GYO bowling attack with his 4 for 62, receiving support from Garfield De Rouche (3-44) and Pravindralall Persaud who took 2 for 62.
GYO began their reply late on the first day and reached 63 without loss from 20 overs, with national Under-19 opener Tagenarine Chanderpaul hitting two fours in his unbeaten 28 and John Champagne five fours in his 27, laying the foundation for a strong GYO reply on the second day.
However, early morning showers left the venue wet forcing the umpires Joseph Jeffrey and Edward Bowen to call a halt to the contest without a ball being bowled, which means the match was ended as a no-contest.
