After concluding exhibitions in seven disciplines with the three Guiana’s here in Guyana over the past four days on conclusion the event deemed a success by all participating, French Guiana will now be the host of the 3rs edition in 2013. At an exciting closing ceremony which commenced with a cultural presentation of the three Guiana’s commencing with Suriname saw performances from the Waiona group where two sections of their indigenous tribes were displayed in song dance and music.
The Arawak group dressed in traditional colors of red, blue, white, black and yellow and saw a demonstration of four different types of flute played in a single performance. The second performance saw the Carob tribe, the Paremunri also performing in song, dance and music before a small sized crowed.
This presentation was followed by a number of performances by host country Guyana, which commenced with Terry Gajraj and the Yoruba Singers performing.
Gajraj rendering a number of his hits in traditional Indian, reggae and bolllywood styles music and brought the patrons to commence the conclusion of the four day festival before leaving as the French team took over with their traditional cultural singing, drumming and dancing.
Present at the closing ceremony were French contingent leader Madam Elizabeth Lama, Surinamese Cultural Director Mr. Lusian Deboure, Guyana’s Minister of Culture, Youth & Sport Dr. Frank Anthony, Director of Culture Prof. Dr. James Rose, local coordinators of the seven disciplines, other ministry officials and patrons, contingents from the three participating Guiana’s.
Leader of the Surinamese delegation thanked the Minister of culture, Youth & Sport for having him and his delegation here over the past four days which he described as fruitful and friendly in Georgetown and Guyana and complimented the organizing committee for making this festival which was started in Paramaribo Suriname better. He indicated to the French contingent leader Ms. Lama that he is looking forward for more improvements as Guyana has delivered to us on the hosting of the 2nd edition of the Inter Guiana’s Cultural Festival. He concluded in thanking everyone who visited the festival.Bobby Vieira who chaired the afternoon proceedings highlighted the fact of the Guiana’s being rich in culture being French, Dutch or English and emphasized that we maintained camaraderie. He noted that being on the peripheral; one cannot see the camaraderie which is exchanged especially people of the arts where a special mute is established. He noted that this is seen at places like the Olympic village where the introduction of the old crosshair, ‘meeting is a pleasure, parting is a pain’, as he mention good things must come to an end to start new ones’.
French contingent leader Ms. Elizabeth Lama who would be responsible for the hosting of the 2013, 3rd edition of the Inter Guiana’s Cultural Festival in her presentation thanked the ministers of Suriname and Guyana for hosting the Inter Guiana’s Cultural Festival in the respective countries and being a success.
She also thanked the delegations of each of the Guiana’s for participating it this event as the exchange of this year have been very fruitful. She noted that in French Guiana the exposure will see the double of exchange work from both Guiana’s who has completed the hosting of this event and that the French Guiana will do their best in hosting as she extend welcome in advance to Guyana and Suriname to French Guiana.
The Surinamese delegation concluded in handing over small tokens of appreciation to the Minister, Dr. Frank Anthony, and Director of Culture Prof. Dr. James Rose, local coordinator Mr. Lennox Canterbury and French Guiana Contingent leader Ms. Elizabeth Lama. The similar was done by members of the National Dance School on behalf Minister Anthony
The passing of the traditional mantle, a symbol of the culture of the festival was next and saw a detail explanation from arts coordinator Philbert Gajdhar.
Minister of Culture, Youth & Sport Dr. Frank Anthony in his brief remarks indicated that he is indeed pleased that we had a successful 2nd inter Guiana’s cultural festival and there were a lot of people who made this festival a success. He noted that over a year ago that over a year ago where the festival was co sieved where the three Guyana would showcase their talent in seven disciplines where we showed the world over rich culture yet we were not doing it as a people. So he explained that the three countries got together and decided that a festival would be the suiting event to do this and Suriname was the first host.
