REIGNING Miss Universe, Angolan Miss Leila Lopes, will pay a five-day visit to Guyana, starting on September 12, and will be a guest of McNeal Enterprise and the Ministry of Tourism. The Guyana Pharmaceutical Corporation (House of Limacol), Caribbean Airlines, Channel 28, and Guyana Times are also sponsors of this Miss Universe visit.
During her sojourn, she will meet with President Donald Ramotar, and be involved in several aspects of this year’s Miss Guyana Universe pageant. Misses Wendy Fitzwilliam (1998) and Mpule Kwelagobe (1999) were present in 2002 at the first Miss Guyana Universe pageant organized by McNeal.
Miss Lopes is also scheduled to visit the Kaieteur Falls, the Georgetown Public Hospital, University of Guyana, the Palms, and other places of interest.
Her visit will mark the second time a reigning Miss Universe was brought to Guyana by McNeal Enterprise, following a visit by Amelia Vega in 2003.
Fourteen delegates will, on September 15, vie for this year’s Miss Guyana Universe crown at the Princess Hotel and Casino.
Miss Lopes will depart Guyana on September 16, one day after that pageant is held.
