Digicel and Splashmins join forces with Guyana Cup

AS the time draws near for the first race to gallop off in the sixth annual Guyana Cup, which is scheduled for the Port Mourant Turf Club tomorrow, telecommunications service provider Digicel and Splashmins Fun Resort joined forces with the organisers to make the event a success. At a simple presentation ceremony held last Thursday, both entities presented their trophies and cheque to Melissa Chattergoon, as part of their sponsorship for tomorrow’s event, which has over G$30M in cash and prizes up for grabs.
Eleven races are carded for the day, with the first at 13:00hrs for horses classified ‘B’ and Lower and covering a distance of 1400 metres, with a first place prize of G$3M, while the second-, third- and fourth-placed finishers will receive G$1.5M, G$750 000 and G$375 000 respectively.
The second is another top event for Guyana and West Indies-bred three-year-old horses, who will do battle for a top prize of G$2M over the same distance, with the second-, third- and fourth-placed finishers receiving G$1M, G$500 000 and G$250 000 each.
Two-year-old Guyana and West Indies-bred horses will compete in the third event for a prize of G$1M, covering a distance of 1 000 metres, while horses classified E and Lower will battle for G$900 000, over a distance of 1200 metres.
Other races on the day cater for horses classified G and Lower, Two-year-old Guyana-bred, H and Lower, I and Lower and J, K and L and Lower, who will do battle over distances ranging from 1000 metres to 1200 metres accordingly.
Some of the horses set to compete are Grande Roja, Marathon Man, Got to Go, Home Bush Baby, Who’s on the Case, Appealing Harvest, Top of the Line, Captain Crook, Sabrina Joy, Big Impact, Serenity, Pride and Joy, Rosetta, I want Revenge, Princess Alisha, Another Jet, Its My Turn, Jipsy Jet, Dream Girl, Silent Night and Hard Runnings, just to name a few.
This event is being run under the auspices of the Guyana Horse Racing Authority, which means that five horses must start a race in order for a third place prize to be paid, while an added two must start if a fourth place prize is to be paid.
Admission to the venue for adults is $2 000 while children who are eight years and under will be admitted free. All tickets will be sold at the gate and with the track being recently resurfaced, horse racing fans can expect an action-packed day of horseracing, as the organisers aim to make this the best Guyana Cup event ever.
