THE Shivnarine Chanderpaul Drive based Georgetown Cricket Club (GCC) signaled their intentions to maintain their supremacy as Under-19 champions when they recorded handsome victories in the first three rounds of the Georgetown Cricket Association (GCA) organised David Persaud Investments sponsored limited overs competition which bowled off last week Thursday. In their first match against Queen’s College, the reigning Under-19 champions humiliated their opponents by 141 runs, while they defeated Bel Air Texaco by 118 runs last Sunday in their second match of the tournament.
Also in winners row were Queen’s College who rebounded to defeat Transport Sports Club ‘B’, Demerara Cricket Club (DCC) ‘A’, TSC ‘A’ and ‘B’ teams, Gandhi Youth Organization (GYO) and Malteenoes Sports Club (MSC).
In their game against Queen’s College which was played at the GYO ground, GCC opting to bat first scored 234 off 44.2 overs, with Devon Lord leading the way with 64, while F. Omrow and Marvin Pestano-Belle offered support with 46 and 30 respectively.
T. Mana took 5 for 61 and S. Rutherford 3 for 22 for Queen’s College, who were bowled out for 93 from 29.2 overs when they replied, as T. Dharamlall snared 5 for 23 and got support with the ball from Lord (2 for 16) and B. Bailey who took 2 for 23.
For the second time, GCC batted first in their game against Bel Air Texaco when they faced that opponent at the GCC ground and were bowled out for 190 from 46.3 overs, with Pestano- Bell 43, Lord 33 and S. Graham 27, being their leading run scorers.
A. Joseph and A. Rampersaud took 3 wickets each for 31 and 33 runs respectively, while R. Lynch grabbed 2 for 30 for Bel Air Texaco, who were bowled out for 72 from 28.5 overs in reply, as Lord (3 for 15), Bailey (2 for 8) and A. Damon who took 2 for 11, steered their team to victory.
In their game against TSC ‘B’, Queen’s College bowled out their opponents who chose to bat first, for 97 which was scored off 26.3 overs, thanks to B. Ramkissoon who took 4 for 3 along with Mana and V. Persaud who took 2 wickets each for 9 and 12 runs respectively.
In their reply, Queen’s College were indebted to Amil Ali who struck an unbeaten 50, which took them to 93 for 7 from 23.1 overs against the bowling of S. Profit and A. Motilall who took 3 wickets each for 13 and 28 runs respectively.
Like Queen’s College, Transport ‘B’ rebounded to defeat Third Class by 69 runs at the Everest Cricket Club ground.
Having scored 213 for 7 from 55 overs, with J. Wilson 63 and S. Profit 42 leading the way with the bat against S. Garnett who took 2 for 26 for Third Class, who were dismissed for 155. F. Douglas and D. Manniram made 40 and Garnett 30 respectively, while A. Persaud took 5 for 28 for TSC ‘B’.
At the DCC ground the home team, who recently celebrated their Centenary Anniversary, inflicted a 112 runs defeat on Bel Air Texaco, who are struggling to find their bearings in the tournament.
C. Mc Ewan (68), Tevin Imloch 38 and Omesh Dhanram 26 led DCC to 214 for 5 from their 55 overs, even though B. Sanichar took 2 for 31 for Bel Air Texaco, who were bowled out for 102 in reply, as Orlando Sturge took 5 for 15.
In Saturday’s round of matches, MSC scored a 173 runs victory over DCC ‘B’ at the Guyana National Industrial Corporation ground, having made 273 all out off 53 overs, with Kareem Naughton leading the way with 59, Steven Sankar 47 and Jamal Norton 37.
S. De Souza took 2 for 40 for DCC, who were bowled out for 100, with Rajiv Balgobin 34, Kemal Savory 22 and Deron Crandon 22 being the principal scorers, as Sankar snared 8 for 28, to record the best bowling figures of the tournament to date.
At the GYO ground, the home team mauled Ace Warriors by 154 runs, having compiled 259 all out in 43 overs, thanks to Loakesh Reid and Shivnandan Roopnarine who both made 71.
Tremaine Clarke took 4 for 37 and Maurice Gibson 3 for 22 for Ace Warriors, who were bowled out for 105 from 13 overs in reply, as only Quacey Leigh 32 and Maurice Gibson 23 offered resistance to the bowling of Devindra Seeraj and Gregory Roach, who took 3 wickets each for 26 and 45 runs respectively.
At Everest, TSC ‘A’ scored a resounding three wickets victory over the home side, after bowling out their opponents for 135 from 29.4 overs and replying with 139 for 7 from 20 overs.
When Everest batted, Shivindra Hemraj made 44 and Chris Surat 37 against the bowling of Joshua Ram who took 7 for 49 for TSC ‘A’. Also, thanks to the batting of Ram for his responsible and unbeaten 51 which steered TSC ‘A’ home, as Kevin Paul took 4 for 29 and threatened to guide Everest to victory.
Due to the unavailability of the GNIC ground on Sunday, the fixture involving DCC ‘A’ and Third Class was not played, but will be at a later date, while the action continues today with several matches at several venues across Georgetown.
