JOSEPH Barker, 29, of Fifth Street, Alberttown, Georgetown, is under police guard at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) after police pursued him and other suspects following a shooting incident on Waterloo Street, also in the city on Saturday night. Police reported that at about 21:10 hrs on Saturday night, Kevin Singh, 29, of First Field, South Cummings Lodge, East Coast Demerara, was in the company of two other men on the roadway at Waterloo Street, Georgetown, when three men rode up on two motor cycles without number plates and one of them discharged rounds at Kevin Singh and rode away.
Ranks of a police plain clothes patrol, who were in the vicinity pursued the men and during efforts to apprehend them, one of them, who was identified as Joseph Barker, 24, of Fifth Street, Alberttown, was shot and injured to his left thigh and hip.
Another suspect was also arrested and one of the motor cycles detained while the other suspect managed to escape.
An unlicensed .357 Magnum revolver with four spent shells have been recovered by the police.
Joseph Barker has been admitted a patient under guard at the GPHC, while Kevin Singh, who was injured to his left hip is a patient at a private hospital. Investigations are ongoing.
Meanwhile, in a separate incident, police are hunting for two men, who relieved an East Coast Demerara couple of their licensed firearm, cell phones and $1.3M in cash on Saturday night.
Police said at about 19:00 hrs on Saturday businessman, Albadar, 47, of Vigilance North, East Coast Demerara and his reputed wife, Reshma Bisnauth had just arrived home in their motor vehicle and as they were about to exit the vehicle they were confronted by two men armed with handguns.
The men held up Albadar and Reshma Bisnauth at gunpoint and took away his licensed .32 pistol along with four cell phones and $1.3M and escaped on foot. Investigations are in progress.
