PREPARATIONS are reportedly on target for the hosting of what may well be the first such event of its kind, when the  Indian Science Exhibition opens its doors to the public tomorrow at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall on Homestretch Avenue here in the city. The Fair, which runs until September 30, is a collaborative venture between the Governments of India and Guyana, and will showcase Indian ancient science and technology and the progress that India has made in the field of science.
The event is anticipated to provide Guyanese with an overview of over 7,000 years of scientific achievements in that country.

Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Culture Youth and Sport, Mr. Alfred King, told the Government Information Agency (GINA) Friday night during a visit to the exhibition site that such an offering will contribute immensely to Guyana’s development, in that it will motivate our schoolchildren to become more involved in the study of science, technology and Mathematics.
He further explained that having recognised the importance and value of such an exhibition, which was last hosted in Trinidad and Tobago, the Guyana Government thought it best to host it here as well.
He noted that in order to make the venture a reality, the Ministry would have put in a lot of resources and partnered with a number of local Agencies, such as the Institute of Applied Science and Technology (IAST), the National Centre for Education Resource Development (NCERD), the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), and the Guyana Learning Channel.
The event promises to be fun-filled, as persons will have the opportunity to discover science and learn from the exhibits.
Touch-screen televisions have been made available so that persons can readily access information; likewise, science models will also be available, as will be a quiz centre so as to whet visitors’ appetite for news of the latest developments in the fields of science and technology.
Among the many areas of science that children will come to know are biotechnology, space and nuclear science. (GINA)
