THE nine Amerindian communities across Region 2 (Pomeroon/Supenaam) have started preparations for Heritage Month celebrations. According to reports, toshoas and village councils are meeting to put together their respective programmes for the month-long celebration in September.
Reports said many communities will be embarking on self-help activities to clean and brighten up their villages for their Heritage Day celebration.
Each community is expected to hold cultural programmes that will showcase the rich culture of the Amerindian people in the form of traditional dances and singing.
Amerindians will also showcase their craft work which will include baskets, hats and nibbi chairs, among many others.
September month of each year was put aside for Amerindian celebration by the late founder of the People’s Progressive Party and President of Guyana, Dr Cheddi Jagan.
