A FARMER and his wife, of ExMouth Village on the Essequibo Coast, narrowly escaped from a large swarm of African bees Wednesday while farming at Cozier. Reports said the farmer, Toney Nohar, and his wife, Loana, were clearing their bora and orcho farm when the swarm of bees swooped down from behind some tall trees.
According to Toney, the swarm, numbering several thousands, came directly at him and his wife and they both had to dive quickly to the ground, among tall grasses and lie still to avoid attracting the bees.
Toney and his wife, who are Christians, said it was God himself who saved them. He said if the bees had caught them in their path they would have been stung to death.
Only recently a tractor driver had to leave his machine and run for his life after a swarm of African bees attacked him as he was ploughing a field at Cozier.
