POLICE said on Tuesday that the body of Gewan Jagdeo, 63, of Bonasika, Essequibo River, was found at about 18:30 hours on Monday last at the Zeeburg foreshore, West Coast Demerara. He was identified as the passenger who was unaccounted for when the wooden boat in which he was travelling overturned in the Essequibo River on August 10, 2012, after it was struck by a speedboat.
Jagdeo was a passenger travelling in a small boat plying the Bartica-Parika route, when he fell overboard following a two-boat collision. He was missing and feared drowned.
Police reported that at about 19:20 hours on Friday, August 10, 2012, a speedboat plying the Bartica-Parika route collided with a small wooden boat operated by Dyardard Sukhdeo and which had two male passengers on board.
Dyardard Sukhdeo was injured and subsequently received medical treatment at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC).
He is currently in police custody assisting with investigations into the incident.
