PRESIDENT Donald Ramotar met Sunday evening with members of the Muslim community at Central Islamic Organisation of Guyana (CIOG), Thomas Lands, as they celebrated Iftar. Iftar commemorates the break of Ramadan, the holy month of fasting. It involved the gathering of Muslim brothers and sisters in prayers at dusk, followed by a festive meal.
President Ramotar expressed gratitude to the members of CIOG who invited him to share the moment, religion and culture.
He noted that the month of fasting is extremely important because of the sacrifices that are required during this period. He referred to the less fortunate and how significant mind control can perform a vital role in advancing the livelihood of the Guyanese populace and the world at large.
A sumptuous feast of dholl-pouri, curried beef and chicken, fried rice, chow-mein, ice cream, fruits and salads along with refreshments was provided for all invitees.
The members of CIOG showed appreciation for President Ramotar’s leadership, pointing out that they have never encountered any hindrances when practicing the norms and regulations that their religion demands.
Additionally, after the ceremony, President Ramotar greeted his Muslim brothers and sisters with embraces.
