BRIDGETOWN, Barbados,  (CMC) – Inclement weather forced three lengthy stoppages to play and spoiled the second day of the fourth round Regional Under-19 match between Barbados and Trinidad & Tobago here yesterday. Altogether a total of 23 overs were lost to rain emanating from a tropical wave as the teams remained locked in battle for first innings honours with the two days producing 447 runs for the loss of only nine wickets.
Trinidad & Tobago, 273 for five overnight after being invited to bat by the hosts on Friday, carried their total to 337 for eight before declaring in the post-lunch session.
The Barbadians made an encouraging response to be 110 for the loss of opener Craig St. Hill’s wicket before the umpires called the players off the field due to poor light with three overs still remaining to be bowled.
First day century-maker Ewart Nicholson added only six to his overnight score (104) before becoming the first of three wickets for Barbados’ best bowler Akeem Jordan who completed overall figures of four for 78.
Play started exactly one hour late due to light drizzle that commenced shortly before the scheduled beginning of play and lanky medium pacer Jordan quickly dispatched Anthony Simmons who took his overnight 22 to 40 as 49 runs were added to the score by lunch.
Adrien Daniel made 25 before he was bowled by Jordan.
In Barbados’ turn at the crease, St. Hill and opening partner Shayne Moseley played confidently against the new ball attack and were still together when the second interruption occurred half hour ahead of the tea break.
Thirteen overs were deducted from the day’s allotment by the time a resumption became possible and off-spinner Daniel provided the only breakthrough for Trinidad & Tobago with the scalp of St. Hill whom he caught off his own bowling for 39 with the score on 67.
Moseley, who finished 49 not out off 132 ballsand Barbados captain Shai Hope (20 not out), then safely negotiated the remainder of the session before the elements had the final say.
