KADY SINGH of Mae’s

KADY SINGH of Mae’s Secondary School, Subryanville, has been rated amongst the nation’s top performers at the recent sitting of the Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate (CSEC) Examinations, having secured Grade Ones at all 12 of the subjects she wrote. In fact, she earned herself the 10th position and was the only student from her school, to have been in the nation’s top 40.
It was a moment of great excitement and rejoicing at her Chateau Margot home yesterday, when the Guyana Chronicle broke the happy news to her. Excited as she was, the very modest teen, tried to keep calm.  With her, at the time, were her father, Mr. Dinesh Singh a businessman, her grandmother, and two siblings, who both attend Mae’s as well. Of course they were among the first to whom she expressed gratitude, for the support she received along the way.
Unfortunately, her mother Mrs. Roxanne Singh passed away in 2004, and so could not share in the joy of the moment. On the other hand, difficult though it was to bear the loss, the death did not adversely impact Kady’s school work.
Her success did not come completely as a surprise to either her father or her Head Mistress, Ms.Onya Sam, who both attested to the high standard of her academic work, and her matured outlook and focused attitude to work at all times.
“She is a child whose character we are very impressed with. She is very modest. She has always been very diligent and was awarded at our graduation exercises, so this is not surprising to us,” the Principal said of Kady.
Noting that the school does its graduation exercise before results of the CSEC come out, Sam said the procedure is that they give awards to the children who have gotten 70% and over throughout their secondary school life and Kady was one. She said there was a healthy competition between Kady Singh and two  other students: Jia-Min and Kadi Hema Singh.
Her father described her as a very disciplined, committed, hard working and diligent child student who put in long hours of study as she prepared for the examinations. “In fact she was an ‘A’ student throughout Primary School and High School as well,” he attested.
Mr. Singh joined his daughter in thanking the Principal and staff of Mae’s for being responsible in great measure, for who she is today- her well rounded personality and her academic performance. Referring to his daughter as a fast learner, Singh says she always tries to be ahead, and never took extra lessons until she reached fifth form, with a view to doing more in preparation for CSEC.
With reading as her main hobby, she also has a passion for computers, and has been doing very well at debating competitions at her school.
Recalling what it was like preparing for the examination, Kady admitted, “It was kind of stressful, because of the amount of subjects that I wrote, but I would not complain.”
And her next move? Kady aspires to doing either law or venturing into entrepreneurship, but has plans to move on the Sixth Form at Nations University or do the Cambridge A’Levels. Her father says that, on completion of her education at Nations University, she will likely travel abroad.
Asked how does she feel about students having to carry the burden of preparing for in excess of 8 subjects, she modestly replied, “Well, it all depends on their ability. If they can handle more, then I think the experience is good.”
Reiterating her gratitude to God and those others whose contribution helped her achieve this remarkable success, Kady mentioned her immediate family circle; teachers and friends.
