Region 2 REO warns contractors to stick to bills of quantities

REGIONAL EXECUTIVE OFFICER (REO) of Region Two (Pomeroon/Supenaam) Mr. Sunil Singh has warned contractors who have won contracts from the regional administration that they must work according to the bills of quantities for projects. Mr. Singh speaking at a recent forum where contracts were handed over publicly to contractors who bid successfully called on contractors to abide by the rules concerning construction of public works.
He also warned contractors not to slip up with their contracts and to work according to the bills of quantities.
The REO said he will not tolerate any adjustment to the bills of quantities by contractors or extension of time for the completion of contracts.
Mr. Singh sternly warned that he is nobody’s friend and contractors will have to do what they are required to do and it must be done on time.
The REO said no construction on government projects will be allowed into the night and that all contracted projects will be strictly monitored and field officers will be given copies of bills of quantities for each project.
Mr. Singh said the idea is to broaden or improve the monitoring capacity in the region.
The REO said the focus is on value for money, and whatever the government is paying for must, get worth for it.
Regional Chairman, Mr. Parmanand Persaud said the regional administration is always under the public scrutiny especially contracted projects.
Mr. Persaud called on Overseers, Rangers and the Water Users Associations to do a good job in overseeing the contracted projects on behalf of the state.
The chairman said the government wants value for money and he will ensure that all contractors comply.
He called for contractors to stick to what is tendered for and not to look for variations, stressing that contractors must give quality work.
