HAVING represented Hotel Tower New Line Cavaliers in last year’s inaugural tournament, Barbados and West Indies t20 all rounder Dwayne Smith will join Suleiman Benn in the King’s XI lineup for this year’s tournament, which bowls off on August 17, at the Guyana National Stadium, Providence. Three teams namely, Hits and Jams Spartans, King’s XI and Hotel Tower New Line Cavaliers will look to dethrone national t20 and defending champions Universal DVD Club Berbice Titans and take the US$10,000 first place prize and trophy.
With this in mind, the King’s XI has named a squad that includes former West Indies opener Travis Dowlin and discarded t20 all rounder Lennox Cush, who will join forces with Smith and Benn to try and dethrone the Titans in their semifinal encounter which takes place on 17th.
Other members of the squad are West Indies t20 all rounder Christopher Barnwell, who has been declared the deputy to skipper Shemroy Barrington, Derwin Christian, Steven Jacobs, Shawn De Souza and Dion Ferrier who are all t20 players in their own rights.
The Hits and Jam Spartans will be led by Tyrell Tull and is expected to include talismanic Jamaica and West Indies opener Christopher Gayle, Andre Russell, Kieron Pollard, Dwayne Bravo, Sunil Narine and dependable West Indies middle order batsman Shivnarine Chanderpaul, amongst others.
The Demerara New Line Cavaliers will have such players as Andre Percival, Gajanand Singh, Paul Wintz, Balram Samaroo and a few guest players, to lead their charge when they take on the Hits and Jam Spartans in their semifinal encounter.
The defending champions have left no stone unturned in their bid to retain their championship, naming their squad which includes West Indies middle order batsmen in Assad Fudadin and Narsingh Deonarine, along with ‘A’ team players in skipper Veerasammy Permaul, Jonathan Foo and Devendra Bishoo.
Permaul is tipped to lead the team in the absence of Royston Crandon, who was at the helm last year when they defeated the Gizmos and Gadgets Pitbulls by 26 runs in the finals, a team that included Benn, Andre Russell, Pollard, Barnwell and Christian.
