A POST MORTEM performed on the body of police sergeant Shurland Thomas, who died with two others in an accident on Thursday morning at Friendship, East Bank Demerara, revealed that he died from asphyxiation due to drowning. Thomas and two of his relatives, Timica Lupe-Brumell and her brother, Dayson Brumell, were killed early Thursday morning when he lost control of the car he was driving, ending up in a trench at Friendship Public Road, East Bank Demerara.
The results of the post mortems on the Brumels were not available yesterday.
It was reported that Timica Brumell was seven months pregnant at the time of her death.
Police reported that they are investigating a fatal accident that occurred at about 06:30 hours on Thursday, July 26, 2012 at Friendship Public Road, East Bank Demerara, and which resulted in the death of the driver Police Sergeant Shurland Thomas of 10 Supply, and occupants Dayson Brumell, 28, and Timica Brumell, 25, both of Lot 8 Supply.
Investigations have revealed that Shurland Thomas was driving motor car PNN 6791 along the roadway when he lost control of the vehicle and ended up in a trench on the western side.
The driver and occupants received injuries and were taken to the Diamond Diagnostic Hospital where they were pronounced dead on arrival.
At the home of the Brumells, Timica’s father, Rudolph Brumell, told the Guyana Chronicle that the siblings were on their way to work when their cousin, Thomas, who resides a few houses away, offered them a drop.
He added that Dayson was an employee at Torginol Paints and is survived by a twin brother, while Timica was attached to the Cheddi Jagan Dental School as a security officer.
