‘Music of the World 2’ super concert an unqualified success–every artiste delivered remarkably

THE biggest event of the year, Music of the World 2 super concert, pulled its curtains at approximately 4am last Sunday morning, after a number of spectacular performances by all of the featured artistes. It was undoubtedly one of the best concerts held in recent times. The highlight of the evening, however, was the seductive performance by Karan and Abha from “Yahan Mein Ghar Ghar Kheli”.

The pair made a grand entrance on stage by greeting their fans, even as they were escorted by a host of cameras and dazzling lights, along with fireworks and sparkles in the air.

It was a magnificent sight, especially when the multi-coloured lights from the ceiling of the stage created a kaleidoscope, making the atmosphere look almost magical.

As the stars appeared on stage, the thunderous screams from the more than 20,000 fans drowned out the sound system. As promised, the pair delivered with charisma and style.

The stars opened with a few romantic Bollywood pieces, followed by some new hits, including “Par Desi Girls”, which left the audience quite astonished.

Decked in a red and golden sari and a dashing red kurta, Abha and Karan wowed the audience by their almost flawless performance. It was as if the audience was looking at an Indian film on stage!

It was a classy performance, even for the harshest critic. They were accompanied by the Ishara dancers, who did a splendid job.

Karan, with his milky body, had all the girls in the audience going wild. As Karan and Abha performed, they interacted with their fans, expressing their love, and thanking Guyana for the warmth and love showered upon them during their stay here.

The Indian stars invited the promoter, Fire Fest Productions’ Chief Executive Officer Mahendra Ramkellawan, to the stage, and he sang his signature song, “Dem Ah Watch Meh”. The stars used that opportunity with Ramkellawan to get their groove on to Chutney music and Caribbean vibes, dancing to Chutney music accompanied by loud cheers.

At just about 2 am, Chutney King of the World, Kris Persad, called “KI”, made his way on stage; and as expected, the crowd erupted as he opened up with his hit, ‘Single Forever’. “KI” rocked the Guyana National Stadium to its very foundation with pure, high-energy steamy vibes running through the veins of his fans.

The legendary Kumar Sanu delivering his astounding performance.

After singing some of his tunes, he introduced Neval Chatelall, the newest member of the JMC 3Veni Band, who rendered several Bollywood filmi renditions which were well appreciated by the audience.

Another member of the JMC3Veni Band, Nishad Mayrhoo (Nishad M), released his newest single, “Another girl again”, and the girls went berserk, as he also  definitely made a name for himself as one of the most talented upcoming stars in the music industry.

After the performance by Chatelall and Nishad, it was time to party with the king. From Soca to Chutney hits, he had the crowd sweating and feting like crazy. As usual, he gave his best performance and nothing else, leaving the audience craving more.

The show started at approximately 8.30pm with the Shakti Strings Band heating things up for the night.
They ‘popped’ some popular Indian, English, Chutney, and Soca flavours, and set the momentum with their groovy sounds.

Next was Canadian singer Anil Singh, who dished out a few filmi songs. Following him was Guyana’s own  Devindra Pooran, whose melodious voice touched the hearts of the thousands who were at the national stadium as he sang some of the popular hits by Mohamed Rafeek.

Little Avinash Maharaj and Nadia Madhoo of the Gayatones Band performed for about 20 minutes each, and were well received by the Guyanese crowd. During the show, there were a few excellent dance pieces by the Apsara Dance Troupe and members of the Ishara Dance School.

The ever blazing, breath taking and hard working Mahendra Ramkellawan also joined the act, launching his new single, “Buss a tune”, among his other hits. He distributed cds with his new single to the audience.
During his performance, he was backed by the Fire Fest dancers as well as Granny Ivelaw, who was in his clown persona.
By 00:15h, the legendary Kumar Sanu took to the stage, and was welcomed by loud roars from the audience, who was literally on its feet.
His more-than-one-hour performance comprised songs from various films, including “Raju Ban Gaya Gentleman”, “Kabhi Haan Kabhi Naa”, “Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge”,“Khamoshi”, “Jab Pyaar Kisise Hota Hai” and “Kuch Kuch Hota Hai”.
