Barnwell and Atwell steer DCC past Atlantis

FOR the second successive day, hosts Demerara Cricket Club (DCC) defeated the visiting Atlantis Cricket Club by 126 runs at the DCC ground in Queenstown, as they continued their Centenary Celebrations in fine style. DCC scored 237 for 4 from their 25 overs, with West Indies t20 selectee Christopher Barnwell leading the way with a robust 94 (9×6, 5×4), which was followed by Derwin Christian’s unbeaten 87 that included nine sixes and three fours.
Their attack on the visitors’ bowling was disdainful, as one of Barnwell’s sixes easily cleared the Lance Gibbs Street home of former Guyana and West Indies all-rounder Roger Harper, off Atlantis skipper Prashant Nair.
He also took 25 runs off Jermaine Horatio’s second over, including a hat-trick of sixes. a and when Atlantis batted, they found the bowling of Anthony Atwell who took 4 for 25 too much to handle and were routed for 115 from 22.2 overs.
Alex Amsterdam top-scored with 20 that included two fours and while Atwell was difficult to play on the two-paced track, Paul Wintz and Deron Crandon who took two wickets each for 17 and 19 runs respectively, offered valuable support with the ball for the home team.
Meanwhile, it was inadvertently reported in yesterday’s issue that the home team won the Andrew Lyght Sr Memorial trophy the previous day, when they defeated Atlantis by five runs in an exciting encounter at the same venue. The headline should have read the Charles Lloyd Trophy. Chronicle Sport apologises for the error and any inconvenience it may have caused.
