A NATIONAL athlete was among four persons busted in a New Amsterdam, Berbice hotel, with 18 grammes of cannabis (marijuana). Consequently, they were each placed on $75,000 bail and ordered to report to various police stations, prior to returning to New Amsterdam Magistrate’s Court on September 17.
The quartet, comprising Mark Major, 28, of Anira Street ,Queenstown; Wallyee Anderson, 39, of Lot 117 East La Penitence, both in Georgetown; along with Imran Ramsaywack, 18, of Adelphi Village, Canje and Cortez Fraser, 17, of Tucber Park, New Amsterdam, are alleged to have had portions of the prohibited plant in their possession at the Church View International Hotel.
The defendants pleaded not guilty before Magistrate Adela Nagamootoo at the New Amsterdam court.
After granting them pre-trial liberty, the magistrate ordered that, while Major is to visit Alberttown Police Station every Monday at 09:00hrs and a record be kept of his attendance, his co-defendants are to, simultaneously, visit the East La Penitence Station, also in Georgetown; Reliance and Central Police Stations, respectively, until the determination of their case.
Earlier, the athlete Fraser told the court he was not at the hotel but was on the road when the police searched the room.
