MINI-BUS conductor Leon Doris called ‘Black Boy’, who is indicted for the rape of a 15-year-old schoolgirl in 2009, has claimed he never saw the alleged victim before Friday, November 13 that year. Testifying in his own defence, he told the Demerara Assizes jury about knowing another ‘Black Boy’, who was operating a route 40 mini-bus on the day in question.
After the Prosecution, being conducted by State Counsel Dianne Kauleser and Retina Singh, closed yesterday, Doris elected to give evidence on oath.
Led by Defence Counsel Peter Hugh, the accused maintained there was another ‘Black Boy’, who could have been mistaken for him.
Doris denied that he had induced the victim to follow him to his sister’s home to collect a receipt but pulled her into a bedroom where he kissed and sexually assaulted her, despite her resistance.
The accused also said it is not true that, while he was indulging in the sexual exercise, the girl protested and he responded by telling her “it is inside already” and there is nothing he could do about it.
The indictment against Doris is that he had carnal knowledge of a girl under 16 years of age, who could not have given consent.
The trial continues today before Justice Franklyn Holder and a mixed jury, when addresses are expected to be made by lawyers on both sides.
