THE OBSERVER… REGION 10 CHAIRMAN LEADS REGION TO DESTRUCTION

Regional Chairman of Region 10, Sharma Solomon, is to be blamed squarely for the protests in Linden, because he has been given a mandate of leadership by the people of Linden to make the best decisions in their interest, regardless of extraneous considerations. However, Solomon reneged on his primary mandate to safeguard the interests of the people of Region 10 in favour of promoting the nefarious, self-serving and destructive agenda of his political affiliates and masters.
In so doing he precipitated a chain of events that catapulted that region decades back in the development trajectory of Guyana, just as Linden was poised for catalyzation in the socio-economic dynamics of our country.

Hatred is Guyana opposition’s tool used to create stratagems to drive their own agendas, and this has agonized and caused destruction to this nation time and again.

That strategy was a deliberate ploy by the opposition to make Guyana ungovernable and shoot down the Government’s projections for a stratospheric flight of this country’s developmental dynamics; and their weapon of choice was the people of Linden.
The opposition collective is quite aware, because of the PPP/C’s stated intentions in its Manifesto, that with the strategic location of Region 10 being the gateway to the Hinterland and a direct conduit to intra-regional trade via the road to Brazil, especially after IT strengthening by the cable being laid, that Linden was programmed in the very near future to develop at a runaway pace, with thousands of jobs created as investors grab the opportunity to situate their businesses to take advantage of this expanding landscape of entrepreneurial activity projected to materialize in that community as the government, now freed from the restraint of the unconstitutional opposition-imposed budgetary cuts, prepare to implement its plans to take Regional 10 to a whole new level of economic growth and social development.
However, proving his name a misnomer, instead of working along with the Government for the benefit of the people of Linden, Solomon put his political partisanship before his responsibility to the people of Region 10, who trusted him to make the right decisions for their general and individual good.
Soloman was instrumental in driving the Machiavellian agenda of the opposition collective, which is the perennial intention and implementation of strategies to set Guyanese against their fellow Guyanese to make Guyana ungovernable by politicians hostile to the PPP.
While Dr. Cheddi  Jagan’s party has always reached out to embrace political colleagues on the side  – the latest attempt being President Donald Ramotar’s attempt to engage the opposition in tripartite talks to find consensual positions on solutions to problems affecting Guyanese and to drive Guyana’s development trajectory upward, the joint opposition has rejected this call by the president and has instead sown the seeds of insurrection in their supporters.
Today, as always, they have succeeded in setting the country on fire and getting innocent persons injured and killed.
Solomon keeps grand-standing in efforts to convince Lindeners that the thorny path on which he is guiding them is the path to glory, when instead it is a path to self-immolation.
Hatred is Guyana opposition’s tool used to create stratagems to drive their own agendas, and this has agonized and caused destruction to this nation time and again.
Who are the criminals here? Certainly not the opposition supporters, who have, as usual, merely been used as cannon-fodder to foster the self-serving agendas of their leaders.
During one of his inflammatory speeches, Solomon had incited PNC supporters, saying that the people have to fight back and hurt the government, “…. they will lead us to a state of emergency.”
In Wismar on June 23, 2012, PNC/APNU’s Aubrey Norton subtly first, and then overtly incited Lindeners to violence, calling on that party’s supporters to create havoc by blocking access to the interior mining areas and to utilise their skills to challenge the government’s decision to stop subsidising electricity in that town.
He adjured the gathering: “We have to be prepared to do what is required to achieve our objective. We stand at the gateway to the interior. I say no more…Let me tell you, this government does not understand reason, so the only solution to this government comes from pressure, more pressure… we have to put them in the pressure.”
Norton reiterated that the task at hand is to ensure that government backs down.
As can be seen from the foregoing, Solomon Sharma and the PNC were on the same page, agitating Lindeners to literally engage in warfare against the government. As can be seen from the consequences, they succeeded all too well.
Instead of attempting to diffuse the situation, despite all the destruction caused; and the derailment of the development dynamics of the Region for which he has responsibility, Solomon is still furthering the agenda of the PNC/APNU by riling up Lindeners once more by blaming the Government for their plight.
In a Demerara Waves article written by Denis Scott Chabrol on Sunday July 22nd, Solomon has reported to have “condemned those committing crimes during the “peoples struggle” to demand no electricity increase and justice in connection with police killings that left three people dead last week.
The report continued, “Addressing a well-attended public meeting in Linden on Saturday night, Solomon said organisers would not tolerate criminal acts that seek to smudge the now four-day old protest.
“We strongly condemn those who want to loot and rob and thief and steal. It is was never a political struggle, it was never a racial struggle, it was always a peoples struggle and we will maintain and keep it a people’s struggle,” said Solomon.
After police killed three persons and injured several others, a government building was burnt down and privately-owned fuel and logging trucks were set on fire. On Saturday, a vehicle belonging to the Public Works Ministry was also torched as it was taking heavy duty equipment to the area to remove debris that has been blocking several roads.
“The Region 10 Chairman assured the gathering that the community is prepared for a long struggle until its demands are met. He highlighted that food supplies are being mobilized and distributed through the religious communities and made available and money has been already donated to bury the three men who were killed during last Wednesday’s clashes between police and protesters.
“We intend to stand our ground. Do not get weary of this struggle, my friends, we will persevere and we will overcome. We have put things in place to take care of you. We will not bring you this far and leave you,” he said.
Demands include a moratorium or altogether scrapping of a hike in electricity rates from July 1, charging of Senior Police Superintendent Clifton Hicken with the murder of the three persons, sacking of the other policemen who opened fire on the crowd for taking illegal orders, resignation of Prime Minister Samuel Hinds and the sacking of Home Affairs Minister, Clement Rohee. They also want an independent commission of inquiry into the police shooting.”
What hypocrisy! After riling up the people with promises that no government can deliver, except by a miracle, Solomon and his co-conspirators in the APNU/PNC/AFC cabal are now further inflaming them with even more unreasonable demands from the Government.
Will the Lindeners heed him? You bet!
The joint opposition will go to any lengths and stop at nothing to gain power, except by legal and constitutional means, and if they need to destroy the country, they will, because there are many like Solomon Sharma ready and willing to lead their people to destruction rather than development.
When will Guyanese ever learn?
