THE Guyana Sports Development Foundation (GSDF) donated a number of football equipment to the Scotiabank/Pepsi School Football Academy Female All Stars Football Team yesterday at the Georgetown Football Club ground. Included in the donation were footballs, football boots and water bottles which were handed over by Golden Jaguars Senior Male Team coach Jamaal Shabazz on behalf of the Guyana Sports Development Foundation (GSDF).
In presenting the equipment to the female players after a session, Shabazz congratulated the GSDF, especially Colin Baker, for this initiative and thanked the sponsors Scotiabank and DDL for having faith in the programme.
Shabazz praised the efforts of the girls who were very receptive to his directives at the training session and said that they can only get better. He urged them to be disciplined at training sessions, punctual, and implement what they learn.
He cautioned the ladies to care the equipment and stated that with the commitment and enthusiasm they display, more will follow.
Shabazz had coached women footballers for over two decades in Trinidad & Tobago and observed that they have always been excellent custodians of equipment.
In closing he also thanked the management of GFC for allowing them access to the venue and the parents for allowing the girls to be a part of the programme. Come next year most of the girls are expected to represent Guyana in the CFU U-17 Female WC Qualifier.
