ASL awards employee’s child with bursary to pursue secondary education

THE Airline Services Limited (ASL) last week awarded the daughter of one of its Flight Operations Superintendents a bursary to assist in the development of her secondary education. The beneficiary was Ms. Sarah Garrido, daughter of Mr Jerry Garrido of the ASL Staff and Mrs. Garrido of Georgetown.
Sarah, who scored 539 marks at the recently concluded National Grade Six Assessment (NGSA) examinations, was among the top ten performers this year.
She had attended the Green Acres Primary School, where she emerged top student, securing a place at Queen’s College.
ASL’s Operations Manager, Annette Arjoon-Martins said the monetary award to Garrido was part of the company’s High Achievers Programme, which recognises and rewards outstanding performance in academia and athletics.
Apart from providing Sarah with a bursary for her secondary school educational materials, ASL also surprised her and her two best friends with an aerial tour of the city in the Cessna 172 which is used by the student pilots.
In handing over the award to Sarah Garrido, Annette Arjoon-Martins expressed hope that she would be joining the flight crew, in a few years, as another outstanding female pilot.
