GCCI hosting seminar July 25

THE Georgetown Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GCCI) announced yesterday that it will be hosting a Banking and Investment Seminar, as it strives to enhance the capacity of the Private Sector through information and training. The event will be held on July 25 at the Pegasus Hotel, in Kingston, Georgetown, targeting mainly small and medium size enterprises (SMEs).
GCCI, recently, restructured its fees system to allow persons involved in SMEs to become members and the seminar participants will hear presentations from the Bank of Guyana, the Association of Bankers, Institute of Private Enterprise Development (IPED), Go-Invest and Canadian High Commissioner, Mr. David Devine.
GCCI President, Mr. Clinton Urling said accessing finance is a major issue for the business sector and therefore, the training is timely, as it will provide information on issues related to banking and the business community.
Other challenging Private Sector issues include local government elections, tax reform, security and the sloth of some agencies to facilitate the provision of critical business services.
Urling also announced that elections to decide the new Chairman of the Private Sector Commission will be held next Wednesday. Mr. Yog Mahadeo was elected to head the Commission but resigned shortly after and Mr. Beni Sankar and Mr. Ronald Webster are now contenders for the position.
