THE Guyana Police Force (GPF), in celebrating its 173rd anniversary yesterday, awarded 1,317 ranks for their sterling contribution in maintaining law and order over the past six months. The function, at the Tactical Services Unit (TSU) Drill Square, Eve Leary, Georgetown, also saw awards given to 61 Community Policing Groups (CPGs) countrywide and 67 of their individual members.
Acting Commissioner, Leroy Brumell, in his address to the gathering, said that the recipients were rewarded for their good work and, since the GPF is a proud organisation, it was only fitting.
He added that, as members of the GPF, their present focus is to suppress criminal activities in the country and do so with an open mind and heart, bearing in mind they have to work along with civilian stakeholders.
The Top Cop also urged ranks to deal with criticisms and always be professional in their duties, stating that some ranks received special awards while others would receive monetary incentives through their respective divisions.
In brief remarks, Assistant Commissioner (Administration), Gavin Primo said ranks who did the GPF proud were awarded and they should be pleased with the achievement because, against odds, they came out on top.
