MESMERISING spin bowling from Troy Gonsalves coupled with a destructive batting display from opener Brian Persaud enabled Everest Cricket Club to defeat Friends of Former Guyana Cricketers (FFGC) in their t20 encounter at the Everest Cricket Club ground last Sunday. Batting first, FFGC found the spin of Gonsalves, who took 4 for 21 from his four overs, too much to handle and scraped their way to 126 for 7 from their 20 overs, of which Andrew Lyght Jr. led the way with 28 (25balls, 2×4, 1×6).
He was supported by Derck Kallicharran who made 20 and former Guyana and West Indies opener Clayton Lambert whose 18 took him 13 deliveries to compile and was decorated with three successive fours.
In their reply, the home team got a brilliant start of 79 between Persaud who made 52 (30b, 8×4, 2×6) and Sheik Mohammed who finished unbeaten on 28, while Dharshannan Lall contributed 27 from 11 balls with two sixes and a similar number of fours, as they reached 133 for 2 in the 17th over.
It was the second successive defeat for FFGC, who went under to Demerara Cricket Club (DCC) by seven wickets the previous day. Both matches were held as part of DCC’s Centenary celebrations.
