DCC draw first blood in Andrew Lyght Sr Memorial Cricket tournament

DEMERARA Cricket Club (DCC) drew first blood over the visiting Friends of Former Guyana Cricketers (FFGC) at their Lance Gibbs Street-based DCC ground and before a medium-sized crowd yesterday. Batting first, FFGC amassed 110 for 6 off their allotted 12 overs, with Faoud Bacchus and Andrew Lyght Jr top-scoring with 28 and 26 runs respectively while Derek Kallicharran made 24 and former national opener Clayton Lambert 8.
In reply, the home side, who were fortunate to have the presence of former West Indies players Clive Lloyd and Roger Harper present to witness the action, reached 115 for 3 from 9.5 overs, with Jamal Hinckson leading the way with 45 while national wicketkeeper/batsman Darwin Christian added 29.
At the brief presentation ceremony which followed, tributes were paid to Lyght Sr by those present, while Hinckson was awarded the Best Batsman prize and Lyght Jr copped the Best Bowler prize.
The FFGC will face a combined lineup today from 13:00hrs at the Everest Cricket Club ground as the DCC Centennial celebrations continue.
