CONSULTATIONS are ongoing countrywide on government’s commitment to the abolition of corporal punishment, the death penalty and the de-criminalising of consensual, adult same-sex relations. However, Cabinet has taken a decision to have the three issues laid in the National Assembly before it goes into recess, according to Minister of Human Services and Social Security, Jennifer Webster.
Minister Webster, who made this disclosure during a press briefing last Friday at the Foreign Services Institute, stated that the intention of Cabinet is to have the three issues taken before a Parliamentary Select Committee to have their content reviewed.
“This will allow us to have these issues reviewed in their entirety, as we will be able to invite and hear the views of the public at large, before the issues are decided upon,” the minister said.
