CHAIRMAN of Region 2 (Pomeroon/Supenaam), Mr. Parmanand Persaud, has ordered an investigation into the operations of Pomona Secondary School on the Essequibo Coast. It happened after two councillors of the Regional Democratic Council (RDC) spoke about problems in the management of the institution at the statutory meeting on Wednesday last.
The call for it was made after Alliance For Change (AFC) Councillor Archie Cordis called for the report on a recent matter of indiscipline at the school.
People’s Progressive Party/Civic (PPP/C) Councillor Rudolph Williams, who is the chairman of the Education Sub-Committee of the RDC, stood up and reported on the incident to counillors but Cordis insisted that is not what was promised.
Another PPP/C councillor, Mr. Farouk Khan, then took the floor and spoke about two incidents pertaining to indiscipline at the school that he highlighted recently at an RDC meeting.
He said something is going wrong at the school and produced a letter he received from a parent whose child is a student there, pointing to an allegation of certain financial irregularities.
Khan, a former PPP/C Member of Parliament, suggested a full probe into the managing of the school.
He said he is not blaming anyone at the school, but Williams supported Khan’s suggestion.
