REGION 2 (Pomeroon/Supenaam) Chairman, Mr. Parmanand Persaud has said that the rice crop looks good and is blooming under the current rainy weather conditions.
However, he noted that some farmers are applying fertiliser to their fields. A total of 32,500 acres are cultivated with rice, for each crop, in that region and Persaud said the regional administration will start preparing dams in those areas as soon as the weather changes.
Meanwhile, he said the current heavy showers have helped to irrigate cultivated fields and raised the level of water in irrigation canals and conservancies.
