National Assembly to resume sitting Thursday — certain govt. motions to be actively considered

A NUMBER of government motions will actively be considered at Thursday’s sitting of the National Assembly. The Order Paper issued by the Parliament Office disclosed that Prime Minister Samuel Hinds will move a motion to honour the long and exemplary service of former Member of Parliament and government minister, Pandit Reepu Daman Persaud, O.R., who served as a Member of Parliament for the People’s Progressive Party from May 18 1965 to May 2, 2006. He served, inter alia, as Chief Whip, Deputy Speaker, Chairman of the Public Accounts Committee, Chairman of the Constitution Reform Select Committee, and Leader of the House.
Over a 14-year period, he had also served as Vice President, Minister of Agriculture, and Minister of Parliamentary Affairs.
The National Assembly will further acknowledge the contributions of former Member of Parliament and  Leader of the Opposition, Mr. Robert Corbin, for the manner in which he had served.
Corbin’s service as a Member of Parliament had been continuous from August 2, 1973 to October 28, 1997; and from April 1, 2001 to January 15, 2012, totalling a period of 35 years, 9 months and 26 days.
Additionally, the Civil Law Rights of Persons in Common Law Union Bill 2012 will be read for a second time by Legal Affairs Minister Anil Nandlall.
